FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 19, 2015
Belleville’s Canada Day 2015… The Countdown is ON!
Belleville’s Canada Day Committee 2015, led by Dwane and Carol Barratt of Barratt’s Office Pro, are ramping up for Belleville’s best Canada Celebration yet for our nation’s 148th birthday and the 50th anniversary of our Canadian flag. Five of the fourteen volunteer committee members gathered at West Zwick’s Park, under the Bay Bridge, to start early Canada Day celebrations!
The format of this family-friendly day remains similar to previous years, with some exciting new events and activities. West Zwick’s Park opens to the public at 11am with General Events in full swing. Favourites include: Wacky Waterslide and Wading Pool, Inflatables and Bouncies, Hair Chalk Colouring, Beach Volleyball Tournament, Belleville Fire Department’s Community Truck and Smoke House as well as everyone’s favourite, CN’s Little Obie miniature train.
Opening Ceremonies start at 12:00 noon on the Mix 97, CJBQ & Rock 107 Main Stage with MC Jeannette Arsenault. Then, the best of our local Quinte musicians kick off the music with Eric Barager, Stompin’ Jon, The Rotted Root Ramblers, Instant Rivalry, The Ben Vandergaast Trio and Matt Hughes. Headliner band, The Getaway, builds the excitement then hands off the musical entertainment to The Reasons that will take the audience to the spectacular fireworks display at dusk with a visual display bigger and better than ever!
The 95.5 Hits FM & Cool 10 Family Stage starts at 11am and features: Jan-Bo’s Puppets, Drum Circle Interactive Music Show, Mega Magic Comedy & Illusion, and our MC/singer Jeannette Arseneault. New this year is the Cosplay Costume Contest expected to attract cosplayers from far and wide and ‘The Joker’ will be making a repeat appearance! The Cosplay Costume Contest runs from 1:30-2:30 with a $300 top prize! Other additional events include: Balloon Twister Mike, Hot Diggity Dogs Flyball Club, the Indian River Reptile Zoo, Paddle Boats and strolling magician Mike with his ‘mega magic’!
But the volunteer committee cannot pull off this event without an entire team of volunteers on Jun 30, July 1 and July 2. Please join the party to make our Canada Day a success!
